Begin Sculptural Painting. Students will view the work of Elizabeth Murray and note the abstraction of everyday items exhibited in her work. 1. They will choose at least 5 everyday items and practice abstracting their form on sketch paper. 2. The next step will be to sketch a composition of the items on sketch paper.  3. Students will cut pieces of scrap matboard into the shapes they've chosen and arrange them into a composition.  4.  The students will paint their composition with acrylic paints. Drawing due this Friday: "The Stoning of Stephen"

Complete acrylic painting.  Begin Figure Drawing Unit.  Students will practice correct proportion on the human figure.  Once they have at least 4 correctly proportioned drawings they will select a ballet dancer to draw.  when this drawing is complete, they will redraw it on black paper with white pencil.  using colored pencil, they will complete the drawing using light colors for the highlights and the black of the paper for the shadows. Drawing due this Friday: "The Temptations of Jesus "

Students will create an abstract watercolor painting that they will then cut up into small pieces.  trading pieces with their classmates, they will assemble a collage with squares of colored paper.  After they glue this collage down to a piece of white paper, they will then trace exch other's silhouettes on another piece of paper.  This silhouette will be traced onto the colored collage, cut out,a nd mounted on black paper. Monday

Students will create an Op Art piece after Victor Vasarely.  They will first create a grid on 16X16" paper.  they will then create 3 circles on the grid of varying size.  Inside the circles the students will distort the grid lines to either curve outward or inward--making the sphere bulge.  They will complete the piece with fine-point markers.
