Begin NESTING BOX project.  Students will design either square boxes or a rectangular boxes that will next together, cut 6 sides for each, bevel all edges and completely assemble the leatherhard pieces.  Once the boxes are enclosed the lids will be cut off and a lip created on each to hold the lids on.  The boxes must nest together. None.

Monday

Introduce Zen Garden Lantern unit. The class will discuss the cultural andf untilitarian aspects of these lanterns and see examples.  Students will design a lantern on paper that is made from paper pattern pieces.  They will create 3 separate section sto each lantern: the viewing/light chamber area, the roof and the base.  They will cut all pieces out of slab clay and assemble as they did for their boxes.
