Go over syllabus. Discuss Artist's Statement Guidelines.

Turn in syllabus signing sheet due Friday, 14th

Tuesday

Assign cubbies.  Go over storage, tool and equipment areas.  Discuss vocabulary.  Demo. whistles.  Give each student a piece of clay and allow them to create a whistle first--then turn the whistle into a recognizeable form using additional clay and correct joining technique. Assign artist's statement--due when project is turned in for final grade.

Monday

  Demo. coiling techniques.  Begin coil pot unit.  Coil pots should be at least 8" in overall height and take 2 weeks to complete.  When the coil pot reaches approx. 6", students will begin to construct their lid. None.

Tuesday

Begin bisque-firing completed whistles. continue coilpots. None.

Wednesday

Demo. glazing.  Discuss glaze properties and method of application.  Begin glazing whistles.  Continue above.  Artist's Statement due at time of whistle completion!

Glaze-fire whistles. Continue above. None.

Friday

Turn in completed whistles along with Artist's Statement.  Demo. lids with lips. Whistle and Artist's Statement due.  None.

Continue coil pots and lids with lips.  Coil pot consturuction will also require 2 pulled handles--class demo. None.

Tuesday

Demo. attaching leather-hard pulled handles. None.

Wednesday

As coil pots are completed, allow them to dry several days None.

Begin bisque-firing coil pots. None.

Friday

Complete coil pots. All students should be attaching 2 pulled handles and making lip on lids.   None.
