For scholarships and college entrance, seniors should be taking care of the following items NOW: 1. Obtain 3 good recommendations. It is suggested that these come from three different sources, i,e. business person, school teacher or administrator or youth minister. In order to obtain this, the student should give his/her activities sheet to the recommender. 2. Activities Record. Each senior has a copy of this already, however, there are more in the guidance office. 3. Personal Essay. There is good information online, especially at the university web sites as to what is expected in these essays. The student should include some basic demographic information, but the main part being information related to college major, career, interests, achievements, grades, courses, hobbies, community service and anything else that would give the readers a good description of the writer and his/her goals and aspirations. 4. Making applications to a college or university. The larger universities in state and out, should be receiving these applications asap. The in-state community colleges can be a later registration (Spring or Summer). Our aim is to have every senior applied and hopefully accepted by the end of December with the reason being that the student can spend the rest of the year working on his/her money for school. Do not wait to send in an application for lack of a test score or some other item; go ahead and make application. Other things can be sent in later. The important thing is to get the application on file!
