State of Florida adopted curriculum that meets the Sunshine State Standards.  CH&BS offers a college prep curriculum with Honors and Advanced Placement classes, Florida Virtual School online class periods, as well as the opportunity to Dual Enroll at Lake Sumter Community College for college credit.

Fine Arts

 

CH&BS offers outstanding Visual Arts, Band (Jazz, Concert, Beginning, and Marching Bands as well as Flag Corp), and Drama. In the Visual Arts department, we offer membership in the National Art Honor Society NAHS and for music, we offer the Tri-M Music Honor Society. We are also a member of the International Thespian Society and produce a musical each year. Maeghin Muller was awarded the Best of Show for Vocals at the State Thespian Completion, and Tara Staton was awarded Best Actress, the highest award given at the state level. For the 2011-2012 school year, our students will perform Into the Woods .

 

The MDB Band received superior ratings at the Florida Bandmaster Association’s District Music Performance Assessment for Concert Band and excellent ratings at the State competition. One of our MDB students was named to the All State Band; and 8 of our students were selected to the All District Band.  The Marching Band and Jazz Band both received Excellent ratings at their District Music Performance Assessment.

 

In the Lake County annual scholarship competition hosted by the Women's Committee on Fine Arts of Mount Dora, nine of the thirteen winners were our students and were awarded prizes in the areas of dance, photography, dramatic monologue, voice, drawing, painting, and ceramics.

Athletics

 

CH&BS is a member of the Florida High School Athletic Association. Organized sports begin at the 6th grade level.  Currently the Bulldog Athletic Program fields 33 teams. 

Our athletic facilities include:

> A newly renovated gymnasium that showcases the Jack McDonald court (complete with beautiful maple flooring) and energy efficient PulseStar lighting


> Lighted baseball, softball, track and football fields


> A challenging cross country course


> Additional basketball courts located outdoors

 

Athletic Accomplishments

  • Girls Basketball: The girls’ team finished the year with a 16-11 record. They are very young with eight freshmen seeing significant playing time. The year was highlighted by a championship appearance in the Sun Coast Classic Holiday Tournament in St. Petersburg. Two of our athletes were recognized for their play this year. Hayley Todd was a First Team All District selection and Lauren Kilts was a Second Team All District Selection.
  • Boys Basketball: The boys’ team finished the year 19-8. They finished runner-up in the district tournament and competed in the Regional Quarter Finals. Three of our players were recognized for their play this year. Raymond Bernard and Josh Ellis were First Team All District Selections and Zach Ward was a Second Team All District Selection.
  • Football – Head Coach: Stephen Cochran. The football team is off to a great start. The coaching staff has established a great environment that facilitates the schools’ mission. Our student-athletes have embraced that philosophy and are making a positive impact on our campus.
  • Bowling –Blake Eldridge was named First Team All County by the Daily Commercial.
  • Boy’s Golf – Charlie Stubbs represented CH&BS AT THE State Golf Tournament and was named to the First Team All County by the Daily Commercial.

  • Girl’s Golf –Won the District Championship, was Runner-Up in the Regional Championship, and competed in the State Tournament. Melissa Hill and Val Rodriguez were named to the Lake County All Area Golf Team.
  • Cross Country –The Boys’ and Girls’ Cross Country Teams qualified for the State Meet. Blaine Ramsdell and Kristina McKinney were First Team All District Selections and Blaine was named Lake County Male Cross Country Athlete of the Year.
  • Softball: Two of our softball players have signed national letters of intent to compete at the college level; Kristina Pazienza (Barry University) and Skip Williams (Seminole State College)
