History of CH&BS

In 1945 a group of Christian leaders had a vision to open a two-part organization: a private Christian school and a Children's Home orphanage in Mount Dora, Florida. Under the leadership of W.O. Norton, the school doors opened on September 10 with 55 students and 8 residents. The school's motto was "To develop the whole child-mentally, emotionally, physically, socially and spiritually," and on May 31, 1946, with the graduation of the first senior class, it was clear that they had succeeded.

CH&BS Today

Located a brief 45-minute drive north of Orlando, Christian Home and Bible School ("Mount Dora Bible") is a private pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade institution placed on a beautiful 70-acre campus. CH&BS is committed to providing a positive, challenging, Christ-centered environment for learning and growing. The school is accredited by both the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) and the National Christian School Association (NCSA). Over 630 students are currently enrolled in the school, and more than 20 students live on campus in the Children's Home. Overall, CH&BS inspires a passion to learn, a courage to lead, and a commitment to serve.

Building Faith in God

From the beginning, Christian Home & Bible School has been an independent Christian school, affiliated, but not owned by Churches of Christ. Valuing people as God's creation, Christian Home & Bible School exists in unity to glorify God by expressing the highest Christian values through healthy spiritual relationships and academic excellence while preparing children for life and eternity. Students discover their value in the Lord and receive guidance from His word by attending daily Bible classes and chapel.

Implementing a College Preparatory Curriculum

Christian Home & Bible School is a leader in the pursuit of academic excellenace throughout the state of Florida. This involves a purposeful growth and constant improvement in the following areas: curriculum, the teaching/learning process, and attention to the demographics of our changing world. Based on research by a Southern Association of Colleges and Schools committee, student surveys, parent surveys, and the NSSE Survey of Instructional and Organizational Effectiveness, CH&BS teachers implement and align curriculum through teaching strategies, learning activities, instructional support, resources, and assessments shared by our common vision. Student assessment and standardized tests reflect the goals and instructional strengths of the Christian Home & Bible School academic program.

Advancing Curriculum through Technology

CH&BS prepares its students for a fast-paced world by utilizing leading-edge technology throughout its curriculum. Courses are offered on Keyboard Typing, New Media Videography, and Computing for College and Careeers, in addition to the standard courses utilizing Windows-based programs. This provides hands-on experience for each student, which enables them to successfully manage today's challenges as well as the challenges they face when entering the demanding technological world.
