Lugar Cottage

“We're excited about the possibilities of helping our new 'family' learn how to live like Jesus.” comments Kelly Robinett, housemom, about why they left successful careers to start their most satisfying career yet.

As our newest houseparents, Keith and Kelly have already proved themselves prepared for the task before them. Keith, and his brother, called Mount Dora Children's Home when they arrived on campus while in elementary school. Kelly was a student in Mount Dora Bible School. They didn't officially meet until a camp session at the Central Florida Bible Camp. They married a few years later.

They have only been in the cottage since July 2005, but they didn't let their "rookie" status deter them from positively impacting the lives of the children living with them.

Their son, Tristan, was born after seven years of marriage. Chloe, their daughter, was born five years later. "She was an answered prayer for her older brother. Since Tristan was four years old, he prayed every day for a little sister," reflects Kelly. While they were beginning a family, they became involved in raising their niece.

"We have rejoiced, cried, agonized and stood with pride over every child in our care," states Keith.

"Our code word this year has been 'represent' as we try to represent Jesus before these children, represent our best in loving them and represent what it means to live with integrity," Kelly adds.

While they have had moments where everyone has cooperated like a family, both will quickly admit they're still learning their trade. "We've had a few times when we're were not sure we'd made the right choice. It's amazing how quickly situations can change a child into someone you don't even recognize," comments Kelly.

Their goal is to teach God's endless love, instill moral values, speak kindly to their souls and remember flexibility all while maintaining a sense of humor. That focus on healthy balance is beginning to show. We're glad the Robinetts made the decision to step up and get involved.
