“No one will score on
my today,” KC told his soccer coach.
A daring comment from a young man who almost
didn’t make it into this world.
You will
not find anyone that dares to use the word “quitter” when
describing this seventeen-year-old. Determined
and driven,
KC is achieving success in his life.
His life
had a rough start. KC’s mother,
immediately after his birth, asked the
doctor to end his life because she didn’t
want him. Only the determined and forceful
presence
of his grandmother saved this incredible
young man’s life.
For the first few
years of his life, KC lived with his grandparents.
He learned
the value
of hard work early. Failing health kept
his grandparents from taking care of many
household
chores, so KC did the cleaning, cooking
and ironing. Many times he would make sure
they
took their medicine and went to their doctor’s
appointments. Finally, prolonged hospital
stays forced them to find another home
for KC. He
arrived at Mount Dora Children’s
Home during his fifth grade year in school.
KC
has not only accepted his life at Mount
Dora, he’s excelled at pursuing his
dreams. A charming personality, winning
smile and passionate
faith help KC remain one of the most popular
young men on campus. “KC uses his
positive attitude and heart to work through
his bad
days and helps others improve their lives,” comments
his housemom.
“I want to be successful
in life,” KC
states. “I want to make my grandparents
proud of me, I want to make my God proud
of me and I want to be proud of myself.”
He
plans to pursue studies at one of our Christian
universities in order to become
a minister
after graduation. “I want others
to know what it means to be given life,
both the life
we enjoy on earth and the life God offers
for eternity,” he explains.
