Hamilton Cottage
“I never knew my dad.
My mom worked all the time. When she was at
home, she yelled a lot and locked me in the
attic so she could have some time to herself,” admits
one boy as he describes his life before living
in Lugar Cottage.
Hamilton Cottage provides
that sense of family most of us remember
fondly. By helping these
school-age boys feel welcome; we can meet
their emotional, physical and spiritual needs.
Every
boy finds a second chance here. They discover
how to better themselves, to discover
their abilities and to realize their future.
A foundation of faith, structure and compassion
is offered each boy as they rebuild their
lives here. Together, they learn morals,
respect,
responsibility and how to successfully
survive in the world around them. Most importantly,
they learn that they matter to someone.
In
this Cottage, every young man realizes
he has value and worth.
Stability, patience
and common sense help these boys develop
strong work ethics and
good grades.
And yet, they still find time to enjoy
being “boys.” Outdoor
activities, skateboarding, hiking over
the hills of the campus and learning
to enjoy God’s
creation instill a sense of wonder and
appreciation.
While the boy’s ages
range in age from 4 to 18, they learn
to work together, play
together and worship together as a family. “We
grew up in large families and know the
importance of sticking together in good
times and bad,” Lillian
Desloges, Hamilton Housemom, explains.
They learn to depend on each other and
understand
the worth of encouragement for one another.
Honesty,
fair play, a good day’s effort
and clean fun are some of the values
modeled by the houseparents, Jacques
and Lillian Desloges,
as they help these boys grown into men.
